Food lovers on the road may want to consider visiting Lima, Peru.

Four restaurants from the South American region made the list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants this week, with Central at the top.

A menu that guides guests through 15 distinct Peruvian habitats, organised by altitude  from 15 metres below the Pacific Ocean to 4,200 metres in the Andes — took shape as Central’s concept evolved over the years. According to the website for the awards, “each dish reflects the origin of its ingredients, from Dry Valley (shrimp, loche squash, avocado) to Amazonian Water (pacu fish, watermelon and coca leaf).”

Maido, a Japanese restaurant with a Peruvian heart, placed in sixth overall in the Peruvian capital, followed by Kjolle at number 28, and Mayta at number 47.

Unsurprisingly, Europe is highly represented in this year’s top 50, with six entries from Spain (including the two, three, and four best restaurants), five from Italy, and four from France. Three additional restaurants from London made the top 50.
